Leitz Hugo — full-frame cine prime series by Leitz Cine (2022): seven lenses from 21 to 90 mm at a constant T1.5, plus a separate 50 mm T1.0. LPL mount, based on Leica M optics (Summilux/Noctilux).

1. Overview

The Leitz Hugo is a modern 50mm full-frame prime lens with a T1.0 aperture, developed by Leitz Cine and introduced in 2022. It is based on the photographic Noctilux and has been rehoused and optimized for cinema use.

3. Creative Use

With its T1.0 aperture, the Hugo is suitable for low-light situations where depth of field is intentionally minimized. The look is modern and high-contrast, with slight barrel distortion and subtle spherical flares in blue and green at lower intensity — not a pronounced character look, but not a sterile image. It is typically found at specialized rental houses and is more likely to be used on well-equipped indie or high-end TV productions when a very fast 50mm option is desired without the harsh character of older vintage glass. Documented film uses are not publicly available.
