AI-based software generating images from text descriptions, used in pre-visualization, concept art, and VFX pipelines.

Midjourney is a cloud-based generative artificial intelligence application that creates photorealistic or stylized images from text prompts. The software uses machine learning and neural networks to generate complex visual content that can be used in various stages of film production.

In pre-production, Midjourney is used for the rapid creation of concept art, storyboard elements, and visual references. VFX teams use the software for the development of matte paintings, environment designs, and as a basis for more complex digital compositions. The generated images can serve as source material for 3D modeling or texturing.

Workflow Integration

The application is accessed via Discord commands or web-based interfaces. Typical prompts include descriptions of lighting, camera angles, and styles. The output is provided in various resolutions and aspect ratios that can be directly imported into common VFX software such as Nuke, After Effects, or Photoshop.

Production teams use Midjourney particularly for exploring visual concepts in early development phases where traditional methods would be more time-consuming. However, the software does not replace artistic expertise but serves as a tool to accelerate creative processes.
