DeSisti LED spotlight with 6-inch Fresnel lens, RGBW LEDs (2,700K–6,500K, CRI >95), and continuous focus from soft flood to sharp spot.
Technical Details
The system operates with RGBW LEDs and achieves a color temperature of 2,700K to 6,500K with a CRI value of >95. The 6-inch Fresnel lens is continuously focusable, allowing for soft flood and sharp spot settings. The Orbiter Fresnel weighs 7.8 kg, measures 320mm in diameter, and is controlled via DMX-512, app, or manual operation. Cooling is provided by a temperature-controlled fan that operates almost silently at low power.
History & Development
DeSisti introduced the Orbiter in 2018 in response to the growing demand for versatile LED solutions that can replace traditional tungsten fixtures. The company developed the modular Orbiter system with interchangeable light shapers, with the Fresnel version being one of the first variants. A revised version followed in 2020 with improved app control and increased light output.
Practical Use in Film
The Orbiter Fresnel is particularly suitable for interior shots where quick color temperature changes are required without conversion filters. Cinematographers appreciate the precise focusability for selective lighting of faces or objects. The RGBW function enables creative color accents without additional color gels. Its quiet operation makes it ideal for dialogue scenes, while the low heat development allows for longer lighting times without loss of comfort for actors.
Comparison & Alternatives
In contrast to the standard Orbiter with a reflector, the Fresnel version offers softer shadows and more even light distribution. Competing systems such as the ARRI SkyPanel or Aputure Nova require separate Fresnel adapters. The Litepanels Gemini is similar in design but does not offer interchangeable light shapers. The Aputure Light Storm 300d with a Fresnel attachment does not achieve the color accuracy and build quality of the Orbiter.
