Pixel Pitch

Distance between center points of adjacent pixels on a display or sensor.

Definition

Pixel Pitch is the distance between the centers of adjacent pixels, measured in millimeters. A smaller pixel pitch means higher resolution/detail accuracy.

Practical Application

Critical for LED volumes: <2.5mm is necessary for camera use. Monitors: Smaller pitch = sharper image. Sensors: Smaller photosites = more resolution but potentially more noise.

Technical Details

LED walls: 1.5mm - 2.8mm for production. Fine pitch <1.5mm for close-ups. PPI (Pixels Per Inch) is the inverse metric: PPI = 25.4 / Pixel Pitch (mm). 4K on 55" = ~0.315mm pitch.
