Technical Details
The Prolycht Orion series achieves illuminance levels up to 45,000 lux at a distance of one meter and operates with power consumption ranging from 300W to 675W. The color spectrum encompasses over 16.7 million hues with 100% color saturation within the Rec.2020 color space. The units utilize proprietary COB (Chip-on-Board) LED arrays with active air cooling via temperature-controlled fans. Control is managed through DMX512, Art-Net, or the proprietary Stellar app via CRMX wireless technology. Typical models include the Orion 300 FS (Full Spectrum), Orion 675 RGB, and the compact Jade 200.
History & Development
Prolycht was founded in Taiwan in 2018 and presented its first Orion models at NAB in 2019. The brand quickly established itself through collaborations with Netflix-certified productions and won the Technical Innovation Award at Cinegear Expo in 2021. In 2022, the Stellar software suite was launched for advanced color control and preset management. The latest generation has integrated AI-based color matching for multi-light setups since 2023.
Practical Application in Film
Prolycht fixtures are preferably used in high-end productions requiring precise color rendition. The Netflix series "The Crown" (Season 5) utilized the Orion 675 RGB for interior shots in historical buildings to authentically simulate warm candlelight atmospheres. For night shoots, the RGB variants allow for rapid color changes without gel filters (CTB/CTO). The flicker-free operation from 500Hz onwards makes them ideal for slow-motion sequences. Disadvantages include the high weight (Orion 675: 12.8kg) and fan noise at maximum output.
Comparison & Alternatives
Prolycht directly competes with ARRI SkyPanel and Aputure Nova series, but offers higher color saturation in RGB mode. Compared to traditional HMI lights, ballasts and lamp changes are eliminated, but the initial purchase cost is 40-60% higher. For budget productions, Aputure LS series are more cost-effective but do not achieve Prolycht's color accuracy. As an alternative to Tungsten lighting, they offer immediate operational readiness without a warm-up phase and 90% lower power consumption.
