Compact cube-shaped LED fixture by Rosco with variable color spectrum — ideal for tight spaces and creative accent lighting.

Technical Details

The Braq Cube operates with 36 high-quality LEDs and achieves a maximum power consumption of 25 watts. The internal lithium-ion battery (7.4V/5,200mAh) allows for an operating time of 2.5 hours at full load or up to 20 hours in Eco mode. The anodized aluminum housing has an IP54 protection rating and operates within a temperature range of -10°C to +40°C. Three main variants are available: the standard Braq Cube, the Braq Cube Pro with extended color control (HSI mode), and the Braq Cube Bi-Color with optimized Tungsten/Daylight tuning.

History & Development

Rosco introduced the Braq Cube in 2019 in response to the growing demand for compact, battery-powered LED solutions for mobile productions. The design team, led by James Peterson, developed the concept after discussions with documentary filmmakers who needed more flexible light sources for interviews and spontaneous shots. In 2021, the Pro version with DMX control followed, and in 2023, Rosco expanded the system to include CRMX wireless technology for cable-free lighting control in larger setups.

Practical Application in Film

The Braq Cube quickly established itself as a standard tool for documentaries and interviews, such as in "The Last Dance" (2020), where over 40 units were used for consistent facial illumination in various locations. Narrative productions use the system as an eye-light or for practical effects – in "Mare of Easttown" (2021), hidden Braq Cubes simulated television light and smartphone light. The magnetic back and the 1/4"-20 thread allow for mounting on metal structures or standard tripods. Disadvantages become apparent for larger areas, as the limited light output requires multiple units.

Comparison & Alternatives

Compared to the Aputure MC (with 3,200 lumens but higher weight), the Braq Cube scores points for its longer battery life and more robust housing. The Litra Pro series offers similar compactness but with a lower CRI value (90+). Modern alternatives like the Nanlite PavoTube II 6C achieve higher light output but lose the advantage of the cube-shaped design for tight spaces. For larger productions with mains power, the classic Arri SkyPanel remains the better choice, while the Braq Cube plays to its strengths in mobile shoots and as accent lighting.
