Professional LED ring light by Rotolight with variable Color Temperature, producing soft, shadow-free light ideal for portraits.
Technical Details
The AEOS weighs 2.8 kg and measures 358 x 358 x 85 mm. The 1,800 SMD LEDs achieve a CRI value of >96 and a TLCI value of >98. The unit features an integrated 95Wh Li-Ion battery with 90 minutes of runtime at full power. Light control is managed via an LCD touchscreen display or via smartphone app over Bluetooth. The AEOS offers 16-bit dimming from 0-100% as well as HSI color mixing with 16.7 million colors. A built-in fan provides active cooling for continuous operation.
History & Development
Rotolight introduced the AEOS in 2016 as the flagship of their LED panel series. The British company developed it as the first consumer LED panel with True Color HSI technology. In 2018, the AEOS 2 followed with improved app connectivity and expanded effect modes. The development was based on Rotolight's experience with ring light systems and aimed to deliver studio quality in a portable format.
Practical Use in Film
The AEOS is suitable for interviews, product photography, and as a fill light in smaller setups. Its shallow depth of 8.5 cm allows for use in confined spaces. The HSI mode enables precise color accents without gels. In documentary productions, teams appreciate the battery-powered option and the whisper-quiet cooling for sound recording. The high color rendering makes elaborate color correction unnecessary. Disadvantages include limited light output for larger sets and battery life during continuous operation.
Comparison & Alternatives
Compared to conventional tungsten lights, the AEOS offers lower power consumption and no heat development. Compared to competing products such as the LitePanel Gemini or Arri SkyPanel S30-C, it is more compact but less powerful. The successor model AEOS 2 Pro offers 20% more light output and expanded wireless functions. For larger productions, Arri SkyPanel or Litepanels Gemini are better suited due to higher light output, while the AEOS excels in mobile and low-budget productions.
