Large-format LED panel by Rotolight with DMX control — delivers extremely bright, even light for studio productions.

Technical Details

The Titan X2 weighs 4.8 kg and has a maximum power consumption of 400 watts. Control is via DMX512, Bluetooth, or the integrated touchscreen display with 16 pre-programmed gels and HSI color mixing. The cooling system uses temperature-controlled fans that automatically switch off at lower power levels. The latest X2 version additionally offers a High-Speed mode with up to 25,000 fps for slow-motion shots and a True Aperture function for direct aperture preview.

History & Development

Rotolight introduced the original Titan in 2016 in response to the growing demand for powerful, mobile LED panels. In 2019, the Titan X1 followed with improved color rendering, and in 2021, the current X2 model with expanded features. The development was based on experience with smaller Rotolight panels and the need for flicker-free LED lighting for high-speed cameras.

Practical Application in Film

The Titan is particularly suitable for interviews and portraits where soft, even light is needed without post-processing of color temperature. For outdoor shots, it serves as daylight fill light or backlight. Bluetooth control allows synchronized lighting setups with multiple panels. Productions appreciate its silent operation at low intensities for sound recording. The disadvantage lies in its high power consumption at maximum output and its relatively high weight for handheld use.

Comparison & Alternatives

Compared to the Aputure 300D, the Titan offers a more even light distribution without an additional softbox, but does not achieve its point-source character. The Litepanels Gemini 2x1 is lighter but less bright. ARRI SkyPanels of the S30 series surpass the Titan in light output but cost three times as much. For mobile productions with a limited budget, the smaller Rotolight Anova is a more compact option, while studio productions tend to opt for permanently installed LED systems.
