ARRI LED panel with 30x15cm light surface and 400W draw. Most widely used size in the SkyPanel series, featuring Bluetooth app control for wireless adjustment of color temperature and intensity.
Technical Details
The S60 weighs 12.6 kg and measures 686 x 342 x 135 mm. The fixture features DMX-512 control, local operation via an LC display, and app control via ARRI SkyLink. Power consumption is a maximum of 400 watts. Color rendering achieves CRI >95, TLCI >96, and SSI (Skin Tone Index) >85. The unit supports various light distribution patterns through interchangeable diffusers (Intensifier, Standard, Lite) and optionally available softboxes, barn doors, or honeycomb attachments.
The LED engine consists of red, green, blue, and white LEDs, enabling full color mixing. The cooling system utilizes temperature-controlled ventilation that automatically adjusts to ambient temperature.
History & Development
ARRI introduced the SkyPanel series at NAB in 2015, with the S60 following as the mid-size variant between the S30 and S120. Development began in 2012 in response to the increasing demand for LED lighting in film production. In 2018, the series received a firmware update for enhanced effects and improved color calibration. In 2020, the Plus generation was introduced with improved color accuracy and higher light output.
Practical Use in Film
Cinematographers frequently use the S60 as a key light for interviews or as a fill light in larger setups. The continuous color temperature adjustment allows for seamless transitions between daylight and artificial light without filter changes. In "The Mandalorian" (2019), SkyPanels were used for lighting the Volume stage. The quiet operation makes the fixture particularly suitable for sound recording.
The soft light character, due to the large luminous surface, creates soft shadows and flattering skin tones. DMX integration allows for precise light control and synchronization with other devices.
Comparison & Alternatives
The S60 is positioned between the more compact S30 (305 x 305 mm) and the larger S120 (1,085 x 300 mm). Competing products include the Litepanels Gemini 2x1, the Aputure Nova P300c, or the Creamsource Vortex8.
Compared to traditional 2K tungsten fixtures, the S60 offers 95% less power consumption and significantly lower heat generation. The higher initial purchase price is offset by lower electricity costs and a longer LED lifespan (50,000 hours).
