Blazar Remus 1.5x anamorphic primes for full-frame sensors. Compact build, T2.0, blue or amber flare options — affordable workhorse for indie productions.

Definition

The Blazar Remus is a special anamorphic lens with a 1.5x squeeze factor, developed for full-frame sensors. Unlike conventional anamorphic lenses with a 2x squeeze, the Blazar Remus compresses the image horizontally by a factor of only 1.5, resulting in a final aspect ratio of approximately 2.66:1. This moderate compression creates the characteristic anamorphic look with oval bokeh effects and horizontal lens flares, but in a milder form.

The lens combines the aesthetic advantages of anamorphic optics with more practical handling. The lower distortion at the image edges and better compatibility with standard camera bodies make it an attractive alternative for productions aiming for the anamorphic look without having to deal with the typical technical challenges of traditional 2x anamorphic lenses.

Practical Application

The Blazar Remus is particularly suitable for narrative films, high-quality commercials, and music videos where a cinematic visual language is desired. Full-frame compatibility allows its use on modern digital cameras such as the Sony FX9 or RED V-Raptor. In post-production, the compressed footage is stretched horizontally by a factor of 1.5 to achieve the final widescreen format.

Technical Details

The lens operates with an optical design specifically optimized for the demands of digital sensors. The moderate squeeze rate reduces chromatic aberrations and improves sharpness performance compared to traditional 2x anamorphic lenses.
