Cineovision Anamorphic

Anamorphic lens system that horizontally compresses the image and produces characteristic oval bokeh. A popular standard for cinematic widescreen shooting with a classic film look.

Technical Characteristics

As a cinematographer, I appreciate Cineovision lenses for their distinctive character – the horizontal flares and oval bokeh immediately lend any image that typical 1970s cinematic look. However, they require precise focus pulling and careful lighting, as they are slower than modern lenses and tend to exhibit softness at the edges. The Cineovision Anamorphic is a process in film production. Vintage Anamorphot

Areas of Application

For me, Cineovision anamorphics are a powerful stylistic tool to visually transport stories to a specific era or create a nostalgic atmosphere. The optical "imperfections" perfectly support emotional narrative moments and give the film an organic, less sterile feel than digital post-production. Cineovision systems offer me a cost-effective alternative to expensive modern anamorphic sets, although I have to factor in longer setup times on set. The vintage look is marketable and often justifies the extra effort, especially when the budget for high-end anamorphics is insufficient.
