Modular LED panel system by Fiilex — individual units link together to form larger light arrays.

Technical Details

Standard configurations include 2x2, 3x3, and 4x4 arrays with a maximum output of 5760 watts for a 4x4 matrix. Each P360 module measures 305 x 305 x 89 mm and weighs 3.2 kg. The beam spread is 45° without accessories, expandable with softboxes and Fresnel attachments to 12° to 65°. DMX control is via Art-Net/sACN protocols with 16-bit resolution per color channel. The integrated battery provides 45 minutes of full load at 2400 Lux/m illuminance.

History & Development

Fiilex developed the Matrix system in 2018 in response to the increasing demand for large-area, controllable LED panels in the high-end segment. The P360 individual modules originated in 2016 from the P360EX series. In 2020, Fiilex expanded the system with Hive integration for cloud-based control. The current generation Matrix II (2022) offers enhanced pixel mapping capabilities and reduced calibration times between modules from 15 to 3 minutes.

Practical Application in Film

The Matrix was used in "The Mandalorian" Season 2 for volumetric lighting effects in StageCraft environments. Camera crews utilize the system for uniform illumination of large green screen areas, with pixel control reducing color corrections in post-production. Automotive commercials use Matrix arrays for precise reflections on vehicle surfaces. The modular design allows for transport in standard flight cases; setting up a 3x3 configuration takes 12 minutes.

Comparison & Alternatives

Compared to ARRI SkyPanel S360-C, the Matrix offers higher pixel density with modular scalability but achieves only 92% of the ARRI system's maximum light output. Aputure Nova P300c arrays are more cost-effective but do not offer individual module control. The Litepanels Gemini 2x1 Soft Panel series competes in mobile applications, while Matrix systems dominate in stationary studio installations with complex lighting choreographies.
