Lightweight cinema zoom lens series by Fujinon designed for Super35 and E-Mount cameras, optimized for compact film productions and drone work.

Technical Details

The MK lenses weigh between 980g (MK18-55mm) and 1,415g (MK50-135mm) with a length of 106-130mm. The minimum focus distance is 0.85m for the MK18-55mm and 0.6m for the MK50-135mm. The optical construction of the MK18-55mm comprises 15 lenses in 11 groups with three aspherical and three ED elements. The lenses fully cover the Super35 sensor and are optimized for 4K resolution. The focus ring rotates 200°, the zoom ring 90°. All three lenses share identical gear positions for seamless lens changes without rigging adjustments.

History & Development

Fujifilm presented the MK series at NAB in 2017. The MK18-55mm and MK50-135mm were released in Fall 2017, followed by the MK18-200mm in 2018. In 2021, Fujifilm expanded the range with MKX lenses featuring an X-mount for X-H2S cameras.

Practical Use in Film

The Netflix series "The Politician" used MK lenses for handheld shots. Documentary filmmakers use the series for run-and-gun productions - three lenses cover 18-200mm. A constant T2.9 aperture maintains exposure while zooming. Minimal focus breathing and neutral color rendition.

Comparison & Alternatives

Canon CN-E lenses: larger and heavier, but T1.5 instead of T2.9. Sony FX lenses: higher cost and weight, better low-light performance. Sigma Cine lenses: more affordable with E-mount, but without parfocal characteristics. The MK series sits between budget optics and high-end series like Zeiss Supreme Primes or ARRI Signature Primes.
