High-end cinema zoom series by Fujinon with large format coverage for full-frame sensors and a consistent T2.9 aperture throughout.

Technical Details

The Premista series includes three zoom lenses: 19-45mm T2.9, 28-100mm T2.9, and 80-250mm T2.9-3.5. All lenses feature a PL mount and weigh between 3.4 kg (19-45mm) and 4.9 kg (80-250mm). Front lens diameters range from 114mm to 136mm. Fujinon's proprietary Altera coating reduces ghosting and flares, while ZK Servo technology enables precise servo control over zoom, focus, and aperture. Minimum focus distance is from 0.85m (19-45mm) to 1.2m (80-250mm).

History & Development

Fujifilm launched the Premista series in 2018. The 28-100mm was the first model released, followed by the 19-45mm in 2019 and the 80-250mm in 2020. Development time: four years. Cinematographers such as Roger Deakins and Hoyte van Hoytema provided feedback during development.

Practical Use in Film

"Dune" (2021, DoP Greig Fraser) used the Premista 28-100mm with Alexa LF cameras in desert scenes. "The Crown" Season 4 utilized the complete Premista set. The lenses work well in single-camera setups with rapid focal length changes without lens swapping. The constant T2.9 on the 19-45mm and 28-100mm keeps lighting stable during zoom movements.

Comparison & Alternatives

Zeiss Supreme Primes offer higher light sensitivity but lack zoom flexibility. ARRI Signature Zooms have comparable specifications at a higher price point. Cooke Varotal/i lenses produce a warmer look but do not resolve 8K. Fujinon MK lenses are less expensive but only cover Super35 sensors. The Premista series combines optical quality with production efficiency.
