Compact LED flat panel with RGBW architecture, CRI 95, stepless color temperature control and flicker-free high-frequency PWM for flicker-free capture up to 1000 fps.

The Kino Flo Celeb is a compact LED panel light characterized by its low heat generation and high color accuracy. Originally developed for broadcast and interview lighting, it has also established itself in feature film production due to its portable dimensions and stepless color temperature control. The flicker-free high-frequency pulse-width modulation at 25 kHz enables high-frame-rate shooting up to 1000 fps without flickering.

History & Development

Kino Flo introduced the Celeb series at NAB in 2016 as a response to the growing demand for compact LED solutions in the broadcast sector. The company, known for its fluorescent tube systems since the 1980s, reacted to the LED revolution in the lighting market. In 2018, the Celeb 401Q variant followed, featuring Kino Flo's proprietary True Match technology, which achieves even more precise color rendering through additional spectral colors.

Practical Use in Film

The Celeb 200 quickly became established in documentary and interview lighting, where its compact dimensions and natural light quality are convincing. In productions like "The Crown" (Netflix), Celeb lights are used for illuminating close-ups, as they are gentle on skin tones and generate no heat. Their low power consumption makes them ideal for location shoots without a power connection, powered by V-Mount batteries (runtime: approx. 2 hours at 50% output). DMX control allows for precise color correction in mixed-light situations.

Comparison & Alternatives

Compared to classic Kino Flo fluorescent systems, the Celeb offers significantly more flexibility in color temperature and dimming, but does not achieve their specific light quality for skin tones. Competing LED panels such as the Arri SkyPanel S30-C or the Litepanels Astra 6X offer similar technical specifications but are larger and heavier. The Celeb scores points with the characteristic soft light quality of Kino Flo diffusion and intuitive operation via the OLED display.
