Prolycht Orion 300 FS is a technique of professional lighting design.
Technical Details
The fixture operates with 1,728 LED chips organized into six color groups (Warm White, Cool White, Amber, Lime, Cyan, Red). The aluminum housing measures 355 × 355 × 95 mm with a weight of 3.8 kg. Light output reaches 18,500 lux at one meter with a 60° reflector. Control is via DMX-512, Wireless DMX, Bluetooth, or the proprietary Prolycht app. The heatsink with integrated fans keeps the operating temperature below 65°C, preventing color drift. The power supply delivers 48V DC at a maximum current draw of 7A.
History & Development
Prolycht introduced the Orion series in 2019 in response to the growing demand for color-temperature-variable LED fixtures. The Taiwanese company developed the patented Full Spectrum technology to emulate the continuous spectrum of Tungsten and HMI lights. In 2021, the FS (Full Spectrum) variant followed, featuring improved color rendering through additional Lime and Cyan LEDs. The current generation from 2023 integrates enhanced thermal management systems and expanded wireless capabilities.
Practical Use in Film
The Orion 300 FS is suitable as a key light for interviews or as a fill light in larger setups. Cinematographers use the app control for precise color temperature adjustments during shooting. The high color rendering makes mixed-light situations controllable when daylight and artificial light are combined. The compact format allows rigging in tight shooting locations. DMX integration enables programmed lighting moods for complex scenes. In documentaries, the battery-powered V-mount option proves useful for mobile applications.
Comparison & Alternatives
Compared to the ARRI SkyPanel S30-C, the Orion 300 FS offers higher portability with similar light output. The Aputure Nova P300c achieves comparable values but differs in its panel design rather than Fresnel optics. The Dedolight DLED12-BI remains more compact but delivers only 150W of output power. For larger productions with fixed setups, the ARRI SkyPanel S60 or Aputure Light Storm 600d are more powerful alternatives. The Orion 300 FS positions itself in the mid-range between portable camera lights and studio equipment.
