Compact 150–250W halogen spot with precise lens optics — throws sharp-edged, focusable shadows. Essential for accent light and tight spaces where larger rigs generate too much heat.

Dedo light

The Dedo light is your first choice when you need precise, focusable light in a compact format. With halogen sources between 150 and 250 watts, it delivers an intense, pinpoint light source that can be transformed into a clean spot or a more diffused flood via high-quality lens optics – depending on the reflector's position relative to the glass. The special feature: the beam of light becomes sharp, with hard and defined edges, not blurry like some Fresnels.

On set, you'll use the Dedo light wherever accuracy is key. Classically, it's used as an accent light on faces – a single 150W with a dimmer creates crisp highlights in the eyes without lighting up the entire scene. Small set decorations, a single object, a hand in the foreground – everything receives targeted side lighting without having to move your main lights. This saves time and keeps heat input low, which is crucial, especially for actors with sensitive skin or in confined spaces. You can mount it on a C-stand or mini-tripod; the arm is thin and flexible, and adjustments are made in seconds.

The balance lies in its focusability. Through the precise lens system – usually proven optics from German or American manufacturers – you achieve a very high contrast ratio between light and shadow. This means shadows become deep black and edge-sharp. This is poetic if you like it, and demanding if you don't expect it. With diffusion or a frost filter in front, you can soften it, but this costs light intensity. In spot mode, a Dedo 150W can easily compete with a 575W HMI Fresnel – but on a significantly smaller beam.

Practically, you'll need a stable power cable, a good dimmer (an electronic dimmer for halogen is important so the color doesn't turn green), and heat-protective coating for your set decorations if you need to get close. A major advantage: the fixture is relatively silent – no fans – and can be panned precisely by hand. The Dedo light is often referred to as a "pocket Fresnel" because it fits into a small case and offers enormous flexibility. It's indispensable for documentaries, talking heads, or hybrid setups where you quickly switch between different focal lengths.
