Professional 350W daylight-balanced LED monolight with COB technology, high CRI/TLCI, and modular design.

Definition

The Aputure LS 300d (Light Storm 300d) is a professional continuous LED light with COB (Chip on Board) technology and a daylight-balanced color temperature of 5600K. The system consists of a separate light head and control unit, connected by a 7.5m cable. The current version (Mark II) was introduced in 2019 and offers 20% more light output than its predecessor.

History & Development

Aputure launched the 300d in 2017 as the successor to the 120d. In 2019, the 300d Mark II followed with improved electronics and quieter fans. The current 300d Mark III from 2021 additionally integrates 2.4G remote control and app control via Sidus Link. The development aimed to replace HMI lights of a similar performance class while reducing heat generation and power consumption.

Practical Use in Film

Camera crews use the 300d as a key light for interviews or as a powerful fill light in larger setups. With the Fresnel attachment, it replaces 1.2kW HMI lights with significantly less weight. Typical workflows include daylight mixing through windows or as a mobile unit for exterior shots. Its quiet operation allows for sound recording in close proximity. The fixed color temperature is a limitation – tungsten looks require appropriate filters with light loss.

Comparison & Alternatives

The 300d competes with the Arri SkyPanel S30-C and Litepanels Gemini 2x1, but offers less color control at a significantly lower price. Within the Aputure family, the unit is positioned between the more compact 120d (120W) and the more powerful 600d (600W). For variable color temperature, the Amaran 300c is recommended, while the nova P300c offers different beam characteristics as an RGBWW panel. For pure daylight setups, the 300d remains the first choice due to its price-performance ratio.
