Flagship 1200W daylight COB LED with 83,100+ lux output at 3m, competing with HMI fixtures at a fraction of power consumption.

The Aputure LS 1200d Pro is the flagship of the Light Storm series and, with its 1200W COB LED, offers a light output that rivals professional HMI fixtures. As Aputure's first LED fixture above the 1000-watt threshold, it sets new standards for high-power LED lighting in film.

History & Development

Aputure introduced the LS 1200d Pro in 2021 as the flagship of its Light Storm series. The Chinese company had established itself since 2013 as a manufacturer of affordable professional lighting and, with the LS 1200d Pro, broke the 1000-watt barrier for LED spotlights for the first time. The development aimed to replace HMI fixtures of equivalent light output without their heat generation and power consumption.

Practical Use in Film

Cinematography teams use the LS 1200d Pro as a key light for daylight exterior shots or for lighting large spaces. The Bowens mount allows for the connection of softboxes, Fresnel lenses, or parabolic reflectors. The silent mode enables sound recording in close proximity. Typical applications include backlighting windows for natural-looking interior shots or creating hard accent lights in music videos. The high light output allows for extensive diffusion without fear of light loss.

Comparison & Alternatives

Competitor products like the ARRI Orbiter or Creamsource Vortex8 offer similar light output but cost three to four times as much. Compared to HMI fixtures like the ARRI M40, there is no need for a ballast or lamp changes. The smaller LS 600d Pro offers 60% of the light output at half the size, while the LS 1200d Pro X version additionally enables RGB color mixing. For budget productions, it remains more cost-effective than established brands with comparable light quality.
